A Craftsman weather seal replacement in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $120 – $220 installed, depending on the door width and whether we’re replacing just the bottom seal or the full vinyl trim set. We stock Craftsman-compatible seals on our trucks and can usually complete the swap the same day you call. Most people discover the part failed one of two ways: they see daylight sneaking under the door, or they find water pooled across the garage floor after one of our afternoon downpours.
The weather seal is the long rubber or vinyl strip that runs along the bottom of your door and up the sides. It’s the first line of defense against standing water, sand, leaves, and the humidity that never really leaves South Florida. When it goes, your garage starts smelling like a boat bilge and the bugs move in. Wade Mercer has replaced hundreds of these in Fort Lauderdale, and he’ll tell you what a torsion spring does or why a seal hardened before its time, but he won’t pad the explanation with words that don’t help you.
Which Craftsman Models This Applies To
Craftsman doors fall into two broad camps when it comes to weather seal replacement: the older steel sections that take a standard T-style bottom seal, and the newer insulated models that use a bulb-style seal with a deeper channel. The difference matters, because a T-style seal popped into a bulb channel will fall out within weeks and you’ll be back where you started.
Most Craftsman garage doors have a manufacturer label on the inside of a side section, near the bottom. It lists the model and sometimes the exact seal profile. If the label is gone or faded, measure the channel: T-style channels are typically 1/4 inch wide, while bulb channels run closer to 3/8 inch and have a round hollow profile at the base. We can match either from the truck.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question, Craftsman-branded seals are reliable but you’ll pay a premium for the name. Quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers we’ve vetted over the years hold up just as well in Florida’s sun and salt air, and they’re what we install more often than not. The key spec is UV stabilizer content. Cheap seals without it crack in 18 months here. We won’t put one of those on your door.
One compatibility gotcha: Craftsman 139-series openers are often paired with doors from Amarr or Clopay, and the door’s seal spec follows the door, not the opener. If your Craftsman opener came with a non-Craftsman door, we match the seal to the door’s channel dimensions. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie systems on hand, so the truck’s usually got what the job needs regardless of what’s bolted to the ceiling.

Signs Your Craftsman Weather Seal Replacement Is Failing
- Daylight under the door. If you can see a sliver of light along the bottom when the door is closed, the seal has compressed or torn. A cracked seal can’t spring back to fill the gap, and that gap is an open invitation for rainwater.
- Water marks on the garage floor after rain. Fort Lauderdale storms push water sideways, and a worn bottom seal won’t stop it. If you’re finding damp spots near the door track, check the seal before you blame the door.
- Cracks, splits, or a chalky white residue on the rubber. That chalkiness is UV degradation. Once the material starts turning brittle, the next step is a tear, and a torn seal does almost nothing.
- Drafts or hotter-than-usual garage temperatures. A damaged seal lets conditioned air escape and humid outdoor air in. If the garage feels like a sauna at 9 a.m., the seal may be part of the problem.
- More bugs and debris than usual. Palmetto bugs and silverfish get in through the smallest gaps. A torn door seal is basically a welcome mat for them.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Lauderdale, we quote weather seal replacement between $120 and $220, and that number is handed to you in writing before any work starts. The range reflects variables like single versus double doors, T-style versus bulb-style seals, and whether the old seal’s retaining channel is still in good shape. If the channel is bent or corroded, we’ll tell you before we touch it, and the price adjusts with your approval.
Every weather seal replacement includes the new seal, removal of the old material, cleaning of the channel, fitting and alignment, and a check of the side weatherstripping while we’re at it. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the seal fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. You’ll get the written price first, and the number on the invoice matches the number you approved. That’s how we run every job at The Garrison Standard.
DIY or Call Us?
Weather seal replacement is not a high-tension job like torsion springs, and a handy owner can swap a bottom seal on some doors with an hour and the right part. If the old seal slides out of the channel easily and the channel itself is straight, that’s a reasonable Saturday project. What we see go wrong is the part selection: homeowners buy a generic seal that doesn’t match the Craftsman channel profile, or they get one without UV stabilizers and it fails within a season. Getting that right matters more than the installation itself.
If the channel is crimped, the door is misaligned, or you’d rather not spend your weekend wrestling rubber under a Florida sun, call us at (754) 354-7491. A live person answers, we’ll match the correct seal to your Craftsman door, and the job is usually done the same day.
FAQs
Expect 3 to 6 years from a quality seal in Fort Lauderdale’s climate. Salt air near the beach, intense UV exposure, and frequent heavy rain shorten the lifespan compared to inland or northern areas. Doors facing east or west take the worst of the afternoon sun and tend to age faster. Call (754) 354-7491 if your seal is cracking before year five, and we’ll check whether a higher-UV-rated profile is a better fit.
Generally no. Once rubber or vinyl has cracked, split, or hardened, patching doesn’t restore its ability to seal out water. Small end tears can sometimes be trimmed, but that’s a stopgap. Replacement is the honest fix, and the parts are not expensive. Call (754) 354-7491 for a written quote before you decide.
Most Craftsman weather seal replacements take 45 to 90 minutes from the time our technician starts the work. If the channel needs straightening or the side seals need attention too, it can run closer to two hours. We’ll give you the window when you book, and the price is on paper before we lift a tool.
Yes. Our trucks carry Craftman-compatible T-style and bulb-style seals in common residential widths, along with retaining channel stock. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie systems. If you’re not sure which profile your door uses, call (754) 354-7491 and describe what you see.
